Name: Sebastian Shehadi Job Title: Political Editor Degree: Modern History and Politics Year of Graduation: 2015
I’ve been a financial journalist for four years. I began working for the Financial Times and am now a political editor with the New Statesman Media Group. I write about the geopolitics of foreign investment.
What first attracted you to Royal Holloway?
The reputation of its history department, its location and high levels of student satisfaction.
What was the best thing about studying History at Royal Holloway?
It’s international and has an incredible campus location! I also think its size is perfect; the teacher-student ratio is well balanced.
How did a History degree help you develop your career?
It’s been said that “journalism is the first rough draft of history”. The two practices are entirely linked. I wouldn’t be a journalist if it wasn’t for my History degree. It honed the key skills for the job: to quickly research, synthesise and write – especially in the realm of geopolitics.
