As a former PhD student at Royal Holloway, I am very excited to share my news of my upcoming publication The Global and Local Appeal of Kneehigh Theatre: Brand Kneehigh.

I successfully completed my doctorate, receiving my award in April 2021, exploring the work of Kneehigh, a contemporary Cornish theatre company who have gained national and international success. During my time with the university, the drama department have been supportive of my research and ambitions to adapt my thesis into a publishable book.

I was inspired to write it after following the company and their work over a number of years, and in light of setting up their own performance venue Asylum. The book discusses the nature of Kneehigh’s work and ambitions in branded terms, through the discussion of ‘Brand Kneehigh’. It also discusses the nature of spectatorship and archival research through the notion of an experiential archive. The ‘experiential archive’ is a label given to the research model of my work, which encompasses a range of elements used for performance analysis, with a specific slant towards a branded performance experience.
