  • Date16 May 2017

Royal Holloway, University of London has risen five places to 40th in the UK in the Guardian’s University league tables 2018. The renowned league table comprehensively analyses UK universities in a variety of key areas, including teaching, student satisfaction and employability to determine their performance.

Royal Holloway has also risen in the Guardian’s subject-specific league tables, including a huge jump for physics, which is now fifth in the UK, 12 places higher than last year and biosciences, which has risen almost 30 places. In total, six subjects are placed in the top 25%: physics, film production, media and film studies, music, psychology, and geography.

The league tables have also shown that Royal Holloway is ranked sixth among 1994 Group institutions and Russell Group-affiliated universities for National Student Survey (NSS) feedback. Figures for graduate employment and career prospects also showed substanital increases.

Professor Paul Layzell, Principal, said “We are delighted that we have risen in the overall rankings, it reflects the effort being put into making sure our students have the best experience they can at Royal Holloway.

“This year will see the opening of our Emily Wilding Davison Building, named after our inspirational alumna, housing state-of-the-art technologies to support academic study, employability and student services. We’ve also launched new courses, including Electronic Engineering, and are continuing to build new facilities for our students, demonstrating our determination to provide the best opportunities and experience for our community.”

Earlier this year Royal Holloway rose three places to 34 in The Complete University Guide. Both tables are internationally respected, looking at areas including student satisfaction, teaching quality and entry requirements.
