How to Visit Us

The Picture Gallery is regularly open to visitors on Wednesdays, 10am-3pm in terms 1 and 2 (September - March). The Gallery is closed in term 3 due to examinations taking place in the space.

We welcome groups on tours of our Picture Gallery. Whether you’re part of a special interest group or just looking for something different for your day out, group tours are a great way to explore our collections. Tours are subject to availability of the Gallery and the art collections team. 

Please note we require at least two week's notice to book group tours.

 

Gallery Tour only

Join us on a free 30-40 minute tour of the Picture Gallery, and hear about the history of the University and art collection. Minimum 10 guests. Get in touch with our art collections team to find out more. 

Day visit

Join us on a tour of the Founder's building, including the Chapel, Dining Room and Reading Room. Enjoy afternoon tea in the Picture Gallery, followed by a talk on our Victorian art collection. Minimum 25 guests. Prices available on request from the Events team.

Exhibitions are held in our Exhibitions Space in the Davison Building. Find out more about our upcoming exhibitions programme here

We welcome researchers to the Picture Gallery and art collection outside our open days, subject to access. If you are an individual, a visiting scholar, or a small group, please contact the art collection team.

Please note we require at least two week's notice to book research visits.

Individual appointments to visit our archives reading room can be booked on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 10am to 4pm. The room will be closed for a lunch break from 12.30 - 1.30pm.

Group visits are also available.

Appointments should be made one week in advance, and can be booked by emailing archives@rhul.ac.uk 

Location and Accessibility

If you are visiting by car, please contact the art collections team in advance of your visit to register your car and avoid a parking fine. Parking is available on campus. 

The Picture Gallery is located in the Founder's Building. The exhibition space is located in the Davison Building. Click here to see a map of campus.

The Picture Gallery, exhibition space, archives and art store are all step free. We are wheelchair accessible. There are benches, chairs and stools available for use in each space. Please view the building's AccessAble profile to learn more.

Information about our collections in the Picture Gallery is available on our app Smartify, which was created in consultation with with visually impaired and low vision users. We also have print guides with information about our collections. We have created an audio description tour of a selection of paintings in the Picture Gallery. This is part of an ongoing project to provide audio description of all works on display. 

There are accessible toilets and baby changing facilities close to the Picture Gallery, exhibition space and art store.
